Deborah Stuttard Communications

Thoughtful words. Tangible results.

I write copy that earns trust, inspires action and helps the right people find you.

Hello, I'm Deborah, but you can call me Bee.

I'm a UK-based freelance copywriter. And I do clever things with words.

With a background in marketing and content strategy, I help ambitious businesses explain what they do, share what they know and give people a reason to choose them.

From websites and thought leadership to SEO content and AI editing, I create copy that’s clear, persuasive and unmistakably yours.

I work directly with businesses across the UK, and partner with marketing and SEO agencies that need an experienced copywriter they can rely on.

I’ve been a freelance copywriter for almost 15 years, and I was writing content for over a decade before that. So you can trust me to deliver a high standard of work.

No hand-holding. No endless revisions. I quickly get to grips with your business, work seamlessly with your team and suppliers, and deliver copy you can be proud of.

Affordable

Great copy doesn’t have to come with a big-agency price tag. My rates are below the UK average for freelance copywriters, giving you experienced, high-quality support that’s excellent value for money.

AI is changing the way businesses create content, but the best results still need a human touch. Whether you need AI-generated copy, expert editing or rigorous fact-checking, I’ll make sure your content sounds like your brand, not a chatbot.

FIND OUT MORE

Great copy, without the big-agency price tag.

I believe in transparent pricing, so you’ll always know exactly what you’re paying before we start.

My standard rate is £50 per hour. Despite almost three decades in marketing and nearly 15 years as a freelance copywriter, that’s still below the UK average. I also offer discounted rates for agencies, retainers and copywriting support packs.

There are no hidden costs or unexpected invoices. The price we agree is the price you’ll pay.

Support Packs

Need flexible support without committing to a monthly retainer? Support packs give you a bank of hours to use whenever you need them over a six-month period. Pack start at 10 hours (£450).

Retainers

If you need regular copywriting support, a retainer gives you dedicated time in my schedule each month at a reduced hourly rate. Retainers start from eight hours per month (£360) and are ideal for businesses that need ongoing content, regular website updates or a reliable copywriting partner. Hours are invoiced in advance and are allocated to that month, so any unused time doesn’t roll over.

Common questions

What is a freelance copywriter?

A freelance copywriter is a professional writer who creates content for businesses on a self-employed basis, rather than working in-house or for a marketing agency. Their role is to communicate your message clearly, engage your audience and encourage people to take action, whether that’s making an enquiry, purchasing a product or building trust in your brand.

Freelance copywriters work across a wide range of formats, including:

  • Website copy
  • Landing pages
  • Blogs and articles
  • Thought leadership
  • Email campaigns and newsletters
  • Case studies
  • Brochures
  • Press releases
  • SEO and AI search-optimised content
  • Social media content
  • Internal communications

Many freelance copywriters also specialise in particular sectors, such as legal, healthcare, manufacturing or financial services, allowing them to quickly understand complex subjects and translate them into engaging, accessible content.

Working with a freelance copywriter gives you access to experienced writing expertise without the cost of employing someone full time. Whether you need help with a one-off project or ongoing content support, a freelance copywriter provides flexible, high-quality writing tailored to your business, your audience and your goals.

Good copy can influence how people see your business. It can build trust, explain complex ideas, improve your visibility in search engines and AI-powered search tools, and encourage potential customers to take the next step.

Working with a freelance copywriter gives you access to experienced writing expertise without the overheads of employing someone in-house or retaining a large agency. You benefit from flexible support, fresh ideas and content that’s tailored to your audience, brand voice and objectives.

A freelance copywriter can help you:

  • Save time by taking content creation off your to-do list.
  • Improve your website with clear, persuasive copy that reflects your business.
  • Increase your visibility through well-researched SEO and AI search optimisation.
  • Build authority with blogs, guides and thought leadership.
  • Maintain a consistent tone of voice across your marketing.
  • Explain complex products or services in a way that’s easy to understand.
  • Support your wider marketing strategy with content that works across multiple channels.

Whether you need a single page of website copy or a long-term content partner, a freelance copywriter can provide as much or as little support as you need.

Freelance copywriting rates vary depending on experience, the type of project and the level of research involved. Some copywriters charge by the hour, while others offer fixed project fees or monthly retainers.

My standard hourly rate is £50 per hour, which is below the UK average for an experienced freelance copywriter. I also offer discounted rates for agencies, retainers and copywriting support packs.

Before any work begins, I’ll provide a clear quote so you know exactly what to expect. There are no hidden costs or unexpected invoices – the price we agree is the price you’ll pay.

The best freelance copywriter isn’t necessarily the cheapest or the one with the biggest portfolio. Look for someone who understands your business, asks thoughtful questions and has experience creating content for your sector or similar audiences.

It’s also worth considering their writing style, approach to SEO and AI search optimisation, testimonials, reliability and whether you feel they’ll be easy to work with.

A good copywriter should make the process straightforward, help refine your ideas and create content that reflects your business rather than their own writing style.

Yes. I write copy that’s designed for people first and search engines second.

That means structuring content clearly and naturally, incorporating SEO best practices without compromising readability.

I also understand how search is changing. As well as traditional SEO, I create content that performs well in AI-powered search experiences and answer engines by focusing on expertise, clarity and genuinely helpful information.

Absolutely. In fact, it’s one of the things I enjoy most.

Over the years I’ve written about everything from plumbing products and manufacturing to employment law, financial services and legal claims. Every industry has its own language, audience and challenges, and I quickly get to grips with new subjects through research, interviews and asking the right questions.

My job isn’t just to understand your business – it’s to explain it in a way your audience understands too.

Yes – where it’s helpful.

AI can be a useful tool for brainstorming ideas, researching topics and speeding up parts of the writing process, but it isn’t a replacement for an experienced copywriter.

With almost three decades of marketing experience and nearly 15 years as a freelance copywriter, I don’t rely on AI to create great content. I use it selectively where it genuinely adds value, not because I need it to do the writing for me.

If you’d rather I didn’t use AI at all, that’s absolutely fine too. Many of my clients prefer a completely human writing process, and I’m just as happy working that way.

Every piece of content I produce is planned, written or thoroughly edited by me to ensure it’s accurate, engaging, fact-checked and aligned with your brand. The end result sounds like your business, not a chatbot.

I also offer a specialist AI editing service if you’ve already created content using AI and want it refined, checked and brought up to a professional standard.

A well-written blog is one of the most effective ways to demonstrate your expertise, answer your customers’ questions and improve your online visibility.

Publishing useful, relevant content on a regular basis gives people more reasons to visit your website, helps search engines understand what your business does and provides valuable content to share through email and social media.

The challenge is consistency. Writing high-quality blogs takes time, research and planning—something many businesses struggle to fit into an already busy schedule.

That’s where I can help.

Whether you’re starting a blog from scratch or need someone to keep an existing one up to date, I’ll create engaging, well-researched articles that reflect your expertise and support your wider marketing goals.

You can choose a regular monthly blogging service or simply commission one-off articles whenever you have something worth sharing.

Choosing a copywriter isn’t just about finding someone who can write well. It’s about finding someone who understands your business, asks the right questions and creates content that works.

With almost three decades of marketing experience and nearly 15 years as a freelance copywriter, I combine strategic thinking with clear, engaging writing. My background spans marketing, content strategy and SEO, giving me a broader perspective than copy alone.

I’ve worked with businesses across a wide range of industries, from manufacturers and technology companies to law firms and professional services. Whatever your sector, I’ll quickly get to grips with your business and create content that’s accurate, persuasive and unmistakably yours.

Working with me also means working directly with the person writing your content. There are no account managers, no lengthy briefing chains and no hidden costs—just honest advice, transparent pricing and a collaborative approach that makes the whole process straightforward.
